Surveillance and Stake-Outs

Surveillance, a discreet observation of a person or persons, is legal when conducted by a licensed investigator retained to perform surveillance of a subject for a legitimate legal purpose. It is used in many types of investigations. Whether you need proof of infidelity, fraud, employee theft, neglect, cohabitation or drug activity there is simply no better way to document facts than with the irrefutable video or photographic evidence obtained during surveillance.

Surveillance

Thorough case preparation and proper planning prior to initiating surveillance of the subject is essential to a successful surveillance execution. When retaining an investigator to conduct surveillance, be prepared to provide them with a photo and/or a physical description of the subject, home and work addresses, the subject’s work schedule, vehicle information, driving habits, places the subject likes to frequent, times they are most likely to be active, any third party information (if suspected), and any other information that you feel might be helpful to the investigation. It is very important for an investigator to know if the subject has ever had an investigator follow them before or if you have ever “threatened” them with hiring a private investigator.

We start by verifying that the initial subject information provided to us is accurate and current. We then conduct a pre-surveillance of the subject neighborhood and any additional places that the subject may frequent, familiarizing ourselves with the layout of the neighborhoods, including the entrances/exits and traffic flow. The more we can anticipate and prepare for the different scenarios that might occur during the surveillance, the greater the likelihood that we will be successful in following the subject and documenting their activities.

Depending on the individual circumstances of your case, we may recommend using more than one investigator or investigative vehicle. If it is a simple assignment in which the subject is being followed from home or work one investigator is usually adequate. If the assignment is more complicated, two investigators may be warranted. We recommend that a second investigator be used if the subject is an aggressive driver, is very alert to his surroundings, or if he has previously had an investigator follow him.

We do everything necessary to insure that the investigation is not compromised by the subject discovering that they are being watched. If we perceive that the subject is suspicious at all, we will immediately back off and re-evaluate the situation. We have the training and the experience to legally, discreetly and confidentially obtain the evidence you need to confirm your suspicions. We will obtain video and/or photographic evidence, provide you with an investigative report and if necessary, testify to the facts in a court of law. Further more, we insure that all information obtained by us is obtained in a legal manner and is professionally documented, detailed and organized for court presentation.

Stake-Outs

A stake-out is also known as a static surveillance, where the investigator is in a fixed position with no requirement to follow the target. It is employed in situations such as attempting to serve process on a party that has been avoiding service or confirming that a specific party resides at or works at a specific location.

In some instances the target is not a person but a building, a warehouse, a business or another location, where the objective is to determine the activities that take place at that location. Some examples of when this might be employed is when the objective is to determine if employee theft is occurring, or if a medical provider is committing insurance fraud..

These types of investigations require a great deal of preparation, as it is imperative that the investigator blends into the environment and goes unnoticed or the investigation will be compromised.

The Use of Surveillance in Infidelity Investigations

Suspecting that your significant other or spouse is being unfaithful to you can turn your world upside down. You ride a roller coaster of emotions from feeling hurt and angry to feeling guilty or even bad about suspecting them of infidelity. You start to question yourself, wondering if you are reading too much into things or are imagining something going on that isn’t. You might start doing things that you never thought you would, like checking their phone, snooping through pockets or purses, checking their Internet activity and paying greater attention to phone calls, texts and times away from home. You realize that you have become a person you don’t even recognize and you feel like you are going crazy. You need your suspicions confirmed one way or another. You need the truth.

Usually when one person in a relationship confronts the other person with questions or accusations of infidelity, the person being questioned will deny it, or lie. One of the biggest reasons clients to come us for help is because they are not getting the answers they need from their spouse or significant other. Discreet, confidential surveillance helps us obtain the answers they need. Simply put, video never lies. Unfortunately, about 90% of the time we find that their suspicions are correct. Only about 10% of the time is there no evidence of an affair. However, as painful as it is to know that infidelity is occurring, it is usually a great relief to our clients to know the truth. They are then able to move forward.

If you suspect infidelity or you have any questions regarding how we can help you in the West Palm Beach or Orlando area, please call us. All communication with us is strictly confidential, whether or not you become our client.
